With Sadness

Mr Clifford Coates 

 

It is with sadness that we sometimes have to mark the death of one of our founding members. Clifford Coats was the first official signatory on the Twinning Charter with Landivisiau, which dates from 1976.

Mr Coates was our town Mayor and received the delegation in September 1976. He and their town mayor , M, Yves Queguiner signed the Charter of Friendship on 4th September. The following year Mr Coates and several others travelled to Landivisiau and signed their Charter on May 28th 1977. Landivisiau always celebrates their anniversaries one year after Bideford giving us a very good excuse (if we needed one) to have a party on consecutive years!

In 2016 at a function in the Pannier Market the town mayor of Landivisiau Madam Claisse presented Mr Coates with a medallion to mark the 40 years of Twinning. At the same function Mr Stewart Philip our veteran member was presented with a Plaque depicting the town crests of Bideford and Landivisiau. A well known and treasured member who is missed by all that knew him.

Mrs Pam Braddeley also died earlier this year. Pam and her husband Alan were members for many year and alwyas joined in our visits and functions. Our condolences go to her family.
